Before you can buy or sell anything on our site you must first register with us. Registration is free and simple.
Do I have to buy or sell anything once I'm registered? [ Back to top ]
No. You are not obligated to buy or sell anything by registering. If you find something you would like to bid on or decide you have something you would like to sell, you can do so easily as a registered member.
How do I search for items of interest? [ Back to top ]
If you click on the "Buy" tab a list of categories is displayed. By clicking on a category all the items listed in that category will be displayed. The "Advanced Search" feature allows you to search for specific items by typing words into the text box, selecting your desired category and clicking on the search button. If there are any matches they will be displayed. You can then bid on an item if you are registered and logged in.
How do I sell an item? [ Back to top ]
Selling at Gavel is easy. You must first be logged into the site. By clicking on the "Sell" tab, you will be displayed with the first of five easy steps to listing an item. First you will be asked to select a category. In step 2 you will be asked to enter a title and description for the item. Step 3 allows you to upload pictures of the item from your computer. Step 4 asks you for the types of payment you will accept and the cost of postage. Finally, step 5 asks you to review your listing before accepting it. You will have the opportunity to edit any information before going ahead with listing the item.
How much does it cost to list an item? [ Back to top ]
It is absolutely free to list items on Gavel. Due to our winter promotion there are no fees and you don't pay commission at the end of sale either.
What if I can't find a suitable category for the item I am listing? [ Back to top ]
As this site is still in it's infancy, there may be certain categories that we didn't anticipate for. If you send our support team an email requesting a category to be added, we will do our best to update the site with the new category. The address to send requests is support@gavel.co.uk
What is a reserve price? [ Back to top ]
A reserve price is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for an item. The reserve price is not disclosed to the buyer but you are informed whether it has been met or not. The seller is not obliged to sell the item if the reserve price is not met. The winning bidder must meet or exceed the reserve price and have the highest bid at the end of the auction.
How do I follow the status of my bids and the items I am selling? [ Back to top ]
By selecting the "My Account" tab you will be displayed with the items you are currently bidding on and whether you are the current highest bidder or if you have been out-bid. After a listing has finished, you will be told whether you have won or lost the item. You can also track the progress of the items you are selling.

All auctions go by GMT.
What currency is used? [ Back to top ]
All auctions are conducted in Pounds Sterling.
How do I buy credits? [ Back to top ]
You must first be registered and logged on to Gavel to purchase credits. By clicking on the My Credits link at the left hand side of the page you will be asked to select the number of credits you wish to purchase. All you need to do is click on the number of credits you want and then click on the button below to continue. You will then be asked to confirm your selection and by clicking on the button you will be redirected to a secure page where you can enter your card details to proceed with the purchase.
