An important part of a councillor′s work is representing constituents on matters of concern to them, giving them confidential advice and support in resolving matters, particularly on issues where the Council is responsible for delivering services to people.
Councillors (also known as Members) all hold regular surgeries within their ward, which residents can attend to raise any issues. The main contact that many officers will have with councillors will be through member casework – where councilors write in with issues of concern to their constituents.
This is an important means by which the Council is held to account, and resident concerns are addressed.
